The Branch will end operating on October 31

There is no single emotion that captures our feeling about this communication.

Almost five years ago, with the support of my wife, we took a chance that there were others who, like me wanted an alternative to coffee shops and work-from-home. Whether it was for a place to connect with other humans, or a way to separate work-life from home-life, we had many folks enter our lives that we would otherwise not have met. We will always have that as a fond memory, and hope that those relationships continue.

Thank you all for your choice to cowork with us for whatever period of time you were here. That trust means a lot to me.

We were able to a play a part in many new ventures as others explored their dreams. We were able to be a place of connection for people who would otherwise work in isolation. We were able to host people who started in our space, and now have their own brick-and-mortar storefront. We’ve had the pleasure of hearing radio commercials that say “now in South Bend” and knowing that we are that location.

Unfortunately, The Branch generates more expense than income, and the gap does not appear to be something we can close. We’ve decided that it no longer makes sense to subsidize the operation, and will need to close the business on October 31.

We communicated to our members already, and are now sharing publicly. Thank you all for being a part of our lives.

Aside: We will be selling all the furnishings on Friday, November 3, and Saturday, November 4. Details on this Craigslist post.
